If you are going to be focusing on using your bow or you have a longbow, go with Archer. If you want a class that can switch easily between bow and melee weapons go with Scout, Barbarian, or even Assassin (bows at 2nd level).

At higher levels:
Archer, +1 point of damage on arrows plus arrows that can ignore armor and destroy shields.

Scout, Earthbind ability to make quick getaways, some immunities, healing ability, and slightly better weapon selection.

Barbarian, ability to use any weapon in the game except longbows, additional lives, and the option to go Berserk towards end of game.

Assassin, poisoning arrows, trap and Teleport for quick getaways, Assassinate to prevent people from getting Resurrected.

what is classified as a longbow

Longbows (4pts)
AMO 60" or more
or
String length 56" or more
or
Crossbow of 20" or more in length

Anything under that is classified as Shortbow or One Handed Crossbow (2pts)

The long range shots take a lot of practice and decent equipment.

For "cheap" longbows you are usually limited to yard sales and eBay. If you check out the archery shops they may have some good deals or possibly some used bows. I know that Alucard and I each paid around $100 for the takedown bows we have.

What specifically are you looking for, rather than the brand name?(is it foam, what kind, etc...)

There is nothing lighter than fun noodle. There are, however, more durable things.

what is more durable

blue foam(most kinds; smurfskin is softer but less durable), grey camp foam, green camp foam, and MC Foam are all more durable. I don't recommend not using noodle, though.

The good things about noodle swords are they can be made and repaired in about 10 minutes, it will only last a few months before you have to rebuild it, and its relatively inexpensive (under 5 bucks a noodle). It is also generally lighter than any other sword built especially if you use noodle cut in half and layered as the tip.

A properly built sword with any of the other methods will have a higher initial cost due to the required ingredients (contact cement, various foams, cloth tape, etc). It will take significantly longer to build due to the drying time on contact cement, and the layering you have to do to build it (I'd guesstimate the one I just built took a total of 3 hours to build including the pommel. It will however last longer.

You can get Uline plank foams locally but a roll is ~200 dollars. I may be able to get this cheaper due to the fact that eclipse uses a lot of it and we may have a wholesale price for purchasing but I need to talk to the buyer.

Honestly this type of foam is better for shields than for swords, though I have seen swords built from thin layers that are rolled around the core many times it is prone to "funneling" as the newbie book says which means since you didn't glue each layer to the previous layer it will eventually start slipping and making a cone shape instead of a cylinder.

I'll bring samples of various types of foam tomorrow and try to remember to seek you out and explain the differences. Also I'll be making some guides with pictures on how I make various things.

Yes.

No, you have to keep holding your bow. In medieval times, they used sorcerers to grow archers in pods like a fungus. Because sorcerers back then were not good at making humanoid constructs, however, archers would be born with no real left hand, as their bows would grow fused through where the fingers would be. To replicate this, Amtgard archers are not allowed to drop their bows for any reason, as it would be historically inaccurate.
